Kate Cartwright's Goddess Art
Nile Goddess
This terra-cotta figure of a bird-like female form was found in predynastic Egypt, ca. 4000 BCE. It is similar to many, less than a foot in height, found in graves near Edfu.

In Egyptian myth it is the Primal Egg laid by a sacred bird in the watery abyss that contains the germ of life. It is the source of the cosmic matter from which the universe is formed. The enlargement of the buttocks is due to the Cosmic Egg she carries.
