Kate Cartwright's Goddess Art
Indians in Mexico today call Our Lady of Guadalupe "Our Mother" and She is understood to be the modern incarnation of their ancient Aztec Goddess, Tonantzin. Guadalupes image adorns both sacred and secular places all over Mexico today and has come to symbolize survival of Indian culture and religious liberty, a hope to native peoples that they can live with dignity, free from the domination of their conquerors.
